BUAV
Objective
The BUAV is committed to ending animal experiments.
We do this through:
-
Lobbying governments
-
Carrying out investigations
-
Undertaking high profile media campaigns
-
Promoting cruelty-free products
Some of our recent achievements
-
2012 - Following a high profile BUAV media campaign, a planning application made by a breeding company wanting to supply beagles to laboratories was rejected, sparing thousands of beagles from experimentation.
-
2011 – Following a hard-fought three year legal battle Newcastle University was ordered, under the Freedom of Information Act, to disclose licences for highly invasive primate experiments.
-
2009 - We helped save an estimated 4.5 million animals from being used to test chemicals.
-
2007 – Marks & Spencer gained BUAV Leaping Bunny certification, joining hundreds of other companies producing cosmetics and/or household products that are free from animal testing. Superdrug and Sainsbury’s later gained certification as well.
-
2004 - After decades of campaigning, animal testing for cosmetics was banned in the EU.
