The latest from the BUAV's Chief Executive...
Hello and happy new year from all of the BUAV team! I am delighted to announce further exciting news about Cruelty Free International, the first organisation and global campaign dedicated to ending cosmetics testing on animals throughout the world. Cruelty Free International was launched by the BUAV last year.
If you follow us on Facebook and Twitter you will know that Cruelty Free International has partnered with Paul Mitchell® the cruelty-free professional hair care brand. Paul Mitchell® has pledged that its products will not be sold in China until the country changes its laws on animal testing. Last week John Paul DeJoria, co-founder and CEO of Paul Mitchell®, and I addressed a well-attended media conference in London to announce the launch of our cruelty-free partnership. Be sure to visit the Cruelty Free International website and show your support for cruelty-free companies like Paul Mitchell® that have taken an ethical stance for animals.
In other news, we were encouraged to learn of the latest developments in India that could result in a move towards a ban on the use of animals for testing cosmetics. This follows a meeting between Dr G N Singh, the Drug Controller General of India and Maneka Gandhi MP, founder of People for Animals, the partner organization of Cruelty Free International in India.
We have a long standing and successful history in campaigning to end the use of animals for cosmetics testing. We successfully placed animal cosmetics testing on the political and public agendas in the UK and EU. This resulted in a UK ban on the testing of cosmetics on animals in 1997, followed by an EU ban in 2003 and the marketing ban set to come into force this year on 11th March.
This is an exciting time for the BUAV and Cruelty Free International as we move into 2013 and I hope you will support us as we make a stand for animals in laboratories worldwide.
Until next time…
