Please sign our global pledge to end animal cosmetics tests!

I am delighted to announce the next stage in the global campaign by Cruelty Free International, the first organisation and global campaign dedicated to ending cosmetics testing on animals throughout the world. Cruelty Free International was launched by the BUAV on March 17th with the support of Ricky Gervais, Ambassador of the organisation.

Cruelty Free International has partnered with The Body Shop to launch our global pledge to ban animal testing for cosmetics. The Campaign will roll out over the coming weeks at The Body Shop in 65 countries across the world. It is the largest and most ambitious campaign ever to seek a global ban on the use of animals to test cosmetics. People in countries such as the USA, Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong, India, Thailand, Mexico and Saudi Arabia will shortly have the opportunity to sign a pledge in-store. Soon Cruelty Free International will be profiled in thousands of stores across the globe in the coming weeks and months. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to take our message to those millions of people across the world who have never previously thought about this issue.   

I believe it is only fitting that such a global initiative should be led by the BUAV. We have a long standing and successful history in campaigning to end the use of animals for cosmetics testing. Our Go Cruelty Free Campaign was launched in the UK over 20 years ago. We successfully placed animal cosmetics testing on the political and public agendas in the UK and EU. This resulted in a UK ban on the testing of cosmetics on animals in 1997. This was followed by  - after years of campaigning led by the BUAV and our sister organisations in the ECEAE -  an Europe-wide ban on cosmetics animal testing. We continue to campaign to achieve a full marketing ban on animal tested cosmetics sold in the EU. Over the years we have received the support of many high profile celebrities and personalities for our campaigns to end cosmetics testing on animals, including Sir Paul McCartney, Ricky Gervais,  Morrissey, Sienna Miller, Joss Stone and Jodie Kidd.  

We are really excited by the potential of this new global effort to make a real difference. The time has come to end product testing worldwide. Cruelty Free International aims to have a real global impact and I hope that you will be able to support us in achieving our mission to finally consign animal testing to the history books.
