CEO Michelle Thew presents at the North American Sustainable Cosmetics Summit in New York

16/05/2013

Cruelty Free International (the organisation founded by the BUAV) Chief Executive, Michelle Thew, is today giving a keynote speech at the North American Sustainable Cosmetics Summit in New York. This event, which is one of a series of international summits encouraging sustainability in the beauty industry, provides an important opportunity to deliver our message at a high-level platform where major issues are debated. Joining key stake-holders and leading organisations in the beauty industry, Michelle will be highlighting the global trends in ending animal testing for cosmetics as well as making the case for the use of alternatives.

This keynote speech follows a recent presentation that Dr Nick Palmer, our Director of Policy, delivered at the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) hearings on US policy in cosmetics regulation last week. With our success in achieving a ban on animal testing for cosmetics in the European Union in March, we are urging the FDA to follow Europe’s lead and do the right thing for animals and consumers by mandating non-animal methods for cosmetics and banning animal testing for cosmetics and personal care products and ingredients.

Last month, Golden Globe award winning actor, Peter Dinklage, became an ambassador for Cruelty Free International joining our campaign calling for an end to cosmetics tests on animals in the United States. Known for his show-stealing role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, Peter joins celebrity Cruelty Free International supporters Sir Paul McCartney, Joss Stone and Global Ambassador Ricky Gervais.

With your support, and the help from our team of international experts, celebrity ambassadors, and cosmetic and personal care industry backing, we can look forward to achieving real and lasting change for animals as we drive to a ban on animal testing for cosmetics in the United States.
