Business guru Liz Barclay is well known and respected for her common sense approach to finances and her advice for managing money.
As the Consumer Advice Columnist for the Independent on Sunday, her clear head and sound counsel makes her a regular TV and radio favourite.
Liz has now decided to take this same sage approach as she joins the BUAV’s campaign to end all UK experiments on cats and dogs.
Liz says: “A house isn't a home to me without dogs or cats. My cats Haggis and Neeps are part of my family and definitely my best friends. They're the latest in a long line of wonderful cats and dogs that have given me a lifetime of love and companionship as well as a fund of brilliant stories and a lot of laughter. I can't bear to think of any of them having been experimented on and I don't want others to suffer either. So I'm supporting this campaign by BUAV calling on the government to end experimentation on dogs and cats in the UK. Please support it too.”
The UK is often said to be a nation of animal lovers, with dogs and cats our most popular companion animals, yet they continue to be harmed in cruel experiments and there is no government policy to reduce their use, let alone bring it to an end.
These cats and dogs endure a life of misery caged in laboratories where they may never see the sky or feel grass under their paws. These animals are not protected by the same law as domestic family dogs and cats, meaning researchers can carry out experiments on them which may inflict severe suffering and harm.
The BUAV Chief Executive, Michelle Thew, said: “It is wonderful that Liz has chosen to support our campaign and we urge the public to join both her and the BUAV and make their voices heard by signing our petition today at ourbestfriends.org/petition.”
Other celebrities who are supporting our campaign include Greg Rutherford, Mary McCartney, Kirsty Gallacher, Jilly Cooper, Ricky Gervais, Paul O’Grady, Kimberly Wyatt, Chris Packham, Helen Skelton, Dave Spikey, Miranda Richardson, Wendy Turner Webster and Ann Widdecombe.
