BUAV urges MEPs for No Cruel Cosmetics in Europe

21/08/2012

The BUAV, together with our colleagues in the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE), are continuing our dialogue with the European Institutions to ensure that the 2013 ban on marketing cosmetic products tested on animals is upheld.

The EU banned testing on animals for cosmetic products and their ingredients and was due to introduce a ban, starting in 2013, on the selling of any cosmetic product tested on animals, even if tested outside the EU. But a report published by the European Commission has indicated that exemptions could be made for certain types of cruel animal tests.

The ECEAE is doing everything it can to ensure the ban goes ahead as planned. Our European Policy Adviser recently met with Members of the European Parliament and their assistants to discuss the importance of maintaining the 2013 marketing ban and to ensure that no exemptions are added.

The European Commission is expected to release its statement after the summer, and we will be keeping you updated on this process.

The ECEAE is running the No Cruel Cosmetics campaign calling for the animal testing ban to go ahead in 2013. You can add your name to the list of celebrities, politicians, cosmetic companies and European citizens which have signed the Euro-wide petition at www.nocruelcosmetics.org
